The negotiation committee have met with management on the following dates:

1. Monday July 18, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to swap proposals and had discussions.

2.Thursday August 11, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to explain to each other why they asked for what they did in the proposals, and continued negotiations.

3. Tuesday September 13, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to have further continue explaining why they asked for what they did in the proposals, and continued negotiations.

4. Wednesday October 12, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items.  They were able to complete a full day of negotiations, and feel positive with how discussions are going.  The negotiation committee has assured us that communications and updates on negotiations will continue. Discussion on monetary items have not started yet.

5. Tuesday October 25, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items, they continue to feel positive with how discussions are going.  Discussion on monetary items have not started yet.

6. Wednesday October 26, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items, they continue to feel positive with how discussions are going.  Discussion on monetary items have not started yet.

7. Monday November 28, 2016

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items.  Discussion on monetary items have not started yet.

8. Tuesday November 29, 2016

The negotiation committee has filed for conciliation.  Both parties are too far apart and have mutually agreed that conciliation is the best way to move forward.  Conciliation is when the Ministry of Labour will assign a conciliation officer who will provide mediation.

9. Wednesday February 1, 2017

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items.

10. Thursday February 2, 2017

The negotiation committee met with management to continue negotiation on contract items, with the Ministry of Labour assigned conciliation officer.  CUPE 1883 Negotiation Committee has reached a "tentative agreement" with management.  A "ratification vote" will be taking place Tuesday February 21, 2017 at

6:00 p.m. at Kitchener Holiday Inn (30 Fairway Road South).

10. Wednesday February 15, 2017

Ratification vote at 6:00 p.m. at Kitchener Holiday Inn (30 Fairway Road South).  All members (due paying members which includes temporary full-time staff) are invited to see the Negotiation Committee and CUPE National Representative present the "tentative agreement," and vote on accepting or rejecting the offer.

If the "tentative agreement" is accepted CUPE 1883 has a new collective agreement, if the "tentative agreement" is rejected the Negotiation Committee goes back to bargaining/negotiations.  Point of clarification: this is a "tentative agreement" this is not a final offer.

"Tentative Agreement" was accepted at the Wednesday February 15, 2017 ratification vote, CUPE 1883 will have a new collective agreement.

11. Wednesday March 22, 2017 - Update Re: New Collective Agreement

There are 3 steps that need to occur to receive the new collection agreement:

1) Employer completes draft of Collective Agreement and submits it to the union for review

2) The draft Collective Agreement goes back and forth between the union and employer until it's correct

3) The draft Collective Agreement is finalized, and the employer will print the new collective agreement and distribute the hard copies to CUPE 1883 members/staff.

*The union is currently waiting for the employer to submit the draft Collective Agreement for review (waiting for start step 1 above).

12. Thursday April 6, 2017 - Important Notice 

The CUPE 1883 Executive has been advised by the employer that retro pay will be issued the end of May 2017.
